Slack Integration

Connect your spaces to Slack Channels & DMs to keep project discussion organized in the same place as all the other project resources. You can easily connect a new or existing Slack Channel to a space in seconds.

All collaborators will see the Slack Channel connected to the space, giving everyone clarity on where discussion should happen for any given project.


Connect a space to a Slack Channel

Connect a space to a Slack Channel to keep project discussion a click away when team members are working on a project.

If you haven't tried creating a dedicated Slack Channel for a project before, we highly recommend giving it a try with your team for your next project. Rather than having important project discussion & decisions lost in a firehose of messages in your team's more general Slack channels, providing everyone with an agreed-upon place to discuss the project will make it easy to review past discussions & decisions all in one place, and greatly cut down on context switching costs.

  1. Open a space.

  2. If you don't see the Chat view in the header of the space, click the button at appears to the right of the other views (e.g. Tabs, Resources, Notes, Tasks), then turn on the Chat view in that space.

  3. Click the Chat view.

  4. Authorize the Slack integration if you haven't already.

  5. Connect a new or existing Slack Channel:

    • New Slack Channel

      1. Click the field that appears under the create section (e.g. Create a Slack Channel).
      2. Type in a name for the new Slack Channel, and fill out any other fields as desired.
      3. Click the CREATE button.
    • Existing Slack Channel

      1. Click the field that appears under the select section (e.g. Select an existing Slack Channel).
      2. Select the Slack Channel you want to connect.
  6. The Slack Channel will be connected to the space for all collaborators, so everyone can easily access the project discussion.


Open a connected Slack Channel

All space collaborators can easily access the connected Slack Channels within shared spaces.

  1. Open a space that has a connected Slack Channel.
  2. Click the Chat view to reveal the connected Slack Channel popup.
  3. Click on the Slack Channel you want to open.
  4. The first time you open a Slack link in Workona, you'll be asked whether you want to open Slack links in the Slack desktop app or in the browser.
  5. The Slack Channel will be opened.

Connect multiple Slack Channels to a space

You can connect multiple Slack Channel to a space for those times when you have multiple related channels for a given project. This is also helpful for teams that create both an internal Slack Channel and an external Slack Channel (e.g. shared with the client/customer).

  1. Once you have connected one Slack Channel to a space, click the Chat view to reveal the connected Slack Channel popup.
  2. Click Connect space to additional Slack Channel at the bottom of the menu.
  3. Follow the standard steps for connecting a Slack Channel above.

Disconnect a Slack Channel from a space

  1. Open the space that has the connected Slack Channel.
  2. Click the Chat view to reveal the connected Slack Channel popup.
  3. Hover over the Slack Channel you want to disconnect, then click the 'Disconnect Slack Channel' button (trash icon) to disconnect it.

Auto-create Slack Channels within spaces

If you always want to create a dedicated Slack Channel for a certain type of repeating project (e.g. client, campaign, event, etc.), you can set up a space template to automatically create a Slack Channel whenever you create a space from that template.

Each space you create from the template will be connected to a unique Slack Channel in Slack.

Once you have your space template & automations set up, all the discussion & decisions for the project will easy to review & all in one place.
